6 jewelry trends that we loved from the Golden Globes

While there were many unforgettable gowns on the red carpet at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, we couldn’t keep our eyes off of the accessories! The focal point for many of the outfits were necklaces, rings, and earrings! There were some classic, vintage jewels and a couple of trendy pieces, like chokers, made an appearance- proving that chokers aren’t out for 2017.

Multiple Rings

Whoever said less is more clearly never knew how to layer rings! Tracee Ellis Ross stunned everyone with a fistful of diamond rings. Intricate layered rings were also featured on stars like Drew Barrymore, who wore 7 Harry Winston diamond rings. A great tip for achieving the perfect layered ring look is ordering a size down so you can have midi rings! Shop the layered ring trend here.

Chokers

Michelle Williams proved that chokers are here to stay for 2017. She made edgy and elegant work with a lace Louis Vuitton gown and a simple, dainty black choker. Her look proved that one tiny accessory packs major punch. Chokers turn even the most basic outfits into style statements. Shop the trend here

Sparkling Statement Collar

Reese Witherspoon wore a dazzling canary diamond collar necklace by Tiffany & Co with her yellow gown. The right statement necklace, especially a glam one, can turn any plain outfit into something special. If you aren’t rocking Versace like Reese Witherspoon, try adding a glam statement collar necklace to a chambray shirt! Shop the trend here.

Statement Pendant

Actress Priyanka Chopra wore a gorgeous statement pendant from Lorraine Schwartz. A statement pendant necklace is a great alternative to a collar necklace. For some, collar necklaces are too chunky, especially if you have a short neck. A statement pendant provides the same amount of wow-factor, but it takes up less space! Shop the trend here.

Statement Earrings

Emily Ratajkowski rocked a pair of drop statement Reem Acra earrings on the red carpet. Paired with a faux bob, the earrings accented her yellow dress perfectly. Drop earrings add that extra punch to perfectly polished power outfits. They add attention-grabbing detail that is impossible to ignore- in a good way! Shop the trend here.

Delicate Layered Necklaces

The final item on our list of jewelry trends we loved from the golden globes is layered necklaces. Zazie Beetz layered two delicate gold necklaces that added just a little something to her all black gown. Simple, yet elegant, these necklaces make her outfit look complete. Shop the trend here.

Overall, there were a lot of jewelry trends that we loved from the Golden Globes and we are inspired by all of the looks! This year’s set of stars dazzled us with jaw-dropping statement pendants and simple, dainty pieces that topped off the night’s best looks. Which look was your favorite? The Inspiration Behind our Ethereal Collection

Hello all my lovelies! I hope everyone has a lot of juicy and fun plans this long weekend for Valentine’s Day and then let’s not forget that extra day off (for some of us at least) right after, President’s Day. I am so glad you stopped by to visit our blog with all that you have going on, and this post in particular to read about our newest jewelry collection that we recently launched, the Ethereal Collection. So without further adieu, please read on!

Back in December as I was in the midst of planning for new and fresh inventory for 2016, I wanted to introduce a line of jewelry that really spoke to what signifies the Urban Diva girl and our overall brand. So reaching deep down I sought to embrace all the characteristics that an Urban Diva gal embodied. This brought me a few months back to when I first launched Urban Diva back in the Fall of 2015. I always knew that whatever jewelry I curated for our customers, it had to give the wearer a sense of confidence and an awareness of her self-being and most importantly, how fabulous she is as her own person. Building upon this inspiration, I sat down with pen and paper and jotted down adjectives that came to mind that exemplified these thoughts. As I was jotting, words such as “goddess”, “empowered”, “sophisticated”, and “graceful” among a list of other powerful uplifting words all dotted my notepad.  I was on a roll, as I glanced over these amazing descriptors I had written down, they formed the underlying vision of the type of jewelry pieces I envisioned as part of our next Urban Diva collection. I named it our Ethereal Collection – jewelry that was delicate yet bold, sophisticated and refined but with personality, pieces that inspired goodness, grace, and beauty coupled with a fashion forward sense of style – all of which is what I believe speaks to the Urban Diva girl.

Each piece in the Ethereal Collection is an expression of the beautiful words I had jotted down, as seen in the contemporary gold and lustrous look and feel of the pieces, but just like each Urban Diva girl is her own person with her own sense of style, each of the pieces has “her” own personality and look. It only felt right to name them, so out of this, Angelica, Celeste, Trinity and Seraphina were born and now available for purchase in the Urban Diva store

To bring all of our images to life it was important for the photoshoot to really capture the essence of each of our pieces. Collaborating with Food/Lifestyle Blogger and budding photographer of the blog, The Babbling Brooke, Brooke Reiser and I brainstormed and went over the vision of the photoshoot. The locale had to be contemporary, sophisticated and airy, my stated must-haves, and with that we settled on none other than the Griffith Observatory sitting among LA’s Hollywood Hills. You couldn’t get any point higher or more “ethereal” then there. We did the photoshoot on a cloudy Saturday morning hoping to miss the crowds of tourists that make the trek up to Griffith. With our model and muse, the beautiful Rochelle Johanson, Brooke captured images that evoked a crisp, light and airy feel to showcase our Ethereal Collection jewelry line. As with our other collections, we wanted to show that these pieces are still very versatile and can be worn with casual wear up to a glammed up evening look.  See some of the beautiful images that graces our website and social media platforms.

Our Ethereal Collection pieces are here to express your inner self and all things that make us women the beautiful creatures that we are. If you have not yet met Angelica, Celeste, Trinity or Seraphina, then please hop on over to our store to get acquainted. I hope any one or more of these beauties speaks to you and how fabulous you are.

Behind the Scenes: Winter Collection 2015 Photoshoot

Hello from sunny Los Angeles! In conjunction with the expected sunny 65 degree weather, I am glad to report that we are finally seeing the temperature drop and feel the chill in the air of fall and winter weather. In lieu of the weather change over the last few weeks, and with Christmas Eve upon us, it’s the perfect time to share with you some behind the scenes recap of our photoshoot for the images seen in all our Winter Collection images.

Our Winter Collection photoshoot was set in the posh Beverly Hills neighborhood by the beautiful Beverly Canon Gardens and surrounding city blocks. This shoot would not have been possible without the collaboration of three fabulous women: our amazing makeup artist Denys, our gorgeous model Brooke, and our talented photographer, Stephanie.

Here is our beautiful, talented crew that came together to make this happen. from L to R: Stephanie Loo, Brooke Barnato, Heather Yan, and Denys Servin

After weeks of facilitating and coordinating, the photoshoot finally came to fruition one cloudy Sunday morning in November. Bright and early we met up at the 8:30am scheduled call time at Beverly Canon Gardens. Armed with a box of joe from Starbucks and a tray of breakfast pastries I met up with everyone and we started our day with outfit and jewelry pairing selections and makeup and hair preparation.

The overall theme of the Winter Collection shoot was a “winter chic in the city” feel. Our jewelry styles and selection caters to everyday wear be it for work, a weekend brunch, happy hour, date night, or an evening out partying. So with that mind, the images we had Stephanie capture ranged from casually accessorized looks all the way to blinged out evening statement look, to show the range of our Urban Diva jewelry selection.

Below are some behind the scene shots that I took with my iphone.

Bringing Urban Diva to Life: Our Fall 2015 Launch

Logo in color600x800v2 cropped

Hello jewelry lovers! It’s been almost a month since we launched, so I want to take the opportunity to share a little bit about our Fall 2015 store launch photoshoot, and how some of the images seen on our Urban Diva home page, social media platforms, and throughout our product pages came to be. None of this could have happened without the collaboration of two fabulous women, the amazing Rachel Madrigal of Rachel Madrigal Photography and the beautiful sultry Oriane Cabare, a French model and actress whose face and images grace our website.

Our photoshoot took place in Long Beach, California where we took advantage of both urban and beach settings to capture the essence and lifestyle we want portrayed with the Urban Diva brand tying in the bold and urban attitude, with the beautiful, free-spirited, and feminine nature that defines us as woman.

Because both Rachel and Oriane were so easy to work with we had so much fun and the time just flew by. We started off the evening in downtown Long Beach searching for the a few different urban backdrops to capture the understated grittiness that I wanted portrayed against certain jewelry pieces worn by Oriane as seen below.

Our final location was the beach, where we rushed to catch the sun at dusk. Here we had Oriane pose in more sultry and carefree vibe to showcase our boho chic and minimalist jewelry pieces that have been in trend.

September’s Sparkling Sapphire

sapphire ring

I don’t know about you, but the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about sapphires, is the beautiful blue sapphire engagement ring that belonged to Diana Princess of Wales. Back in the 1980s I don’t recall there being a trend for colored engagement ring like it is nowadays. The ring of course now graces the hand of the lovely Princess Catherine (aka Kate Middleton), Duchess of Cambridge. And just because it was passed down from Princess Di, let’s all agree that her ring started a trend for blue sapphire engagement rings, and will therefore stand the test of time should Kate pass it on within the British royal family’s future female descendants, whether colored engagement rings are in vogue or not in the future.

In case you didn’t know, the sapphire is the birthstone for September. In honor of all the ladies out there who have September birthdays, here are a few facts about this pretty gemstone so that we can appreciate not only its beauty and dazzle, but its background:

Sapphire gemstones actually come in a variety of colors, ranging from the most coveted deep blue color to pink, yellow, purple, and even green according to the American Gem Society. In addition to Princess Di’s famous blue sapphire ring, a few other noteworthy sapphire e-rings can be seen on Jenny McCarthy, who sports a beautiful yellow sapphire engagement ring from hubby Donnie Wahlberg, and Nicole Richie’s unique cushion cut pink sapphire engagement ring.

The International Colored Gemstone Association indicates that in addition to the general public’s affinity to the sapphires deep blue color, sapphire stones are the second strongest mineral, the diamond being the hardest mineral.

In folklore days, sapphire stones protected its wearer from harm and envy. In addition, “the clergy wore blue sapphires to symbolize Heaven, and ordinary folks thought the gem attracted heavenly blessings” indicated by the GIA

The diverse colors of the sapphire make this gemstone so versatile to wear and accessorize with one’s wardrobe. FashionSnoops published its 2016 spring/summer color trend fashion report on We Connect Fashion, which indicates that heirloom jewel toned colors and bright palettes, including indigo blue and periwinkle, are expected to continue to be in trend. The blue sapphire fits quite nicely within this trend among the color choices women are expected to make for their wardrobe in the coming year. On the other hand, one may say that regardless of the color and fashion trends, the blue sapphire has more then made its mark in history among the fashionable and is here to stay.

So, again wishing all the ladies out there born in September, a happy birthday! If anyone owns any sapphire jewelry (not just blue) step up and represent, post a pic of your lovely piece in the comments section.

Jewelry Enthusiasts: Have you checked out the International Gem and Jewelry Show?

In lieu of New York’s Fashion Week that is currently front and center this week, I want to make sure that all jewelry enthusiasts are aware of the International Gem and Jewelry Show that takes places year long.

Gemshow banner_500x610

The International Gem and Jewelry Show, or Intergem for short, hosts over 90 shows in 35 major cities across the US according to their website. The events typically last three days showcasing a variety of jewelers and jewelry brands.  I recently visited their Beverly Hills Hyatt Regency Hotel jewelry show where I saw jewelers hailing from all over the US represented. They showcased a spectrum of finely crafted baubles and sparkly trinkets, from both fashion pieces to beautiful diamonds (…think engagement ring ladies and gentlemen) to colorful gemstones and beads for sale.

gemshow rings_500x601

Colorful stone statement rings and bracelets

There was something there for everyone to ogle at, including several jewelry supply booths sprinkled throughout the floor catering to those jewelry designers and DIY-ers.

gemshow bracelets_500x592 If you want to spend an afternoon perusing booths full of beautiful, sparkling, ornate and unique gems and jewels, check out the International Gem and Jewelry website schedule to see when they will be in your town. Even better the admission cost ranges from roughly six to ten dollars only, depending on the location, and if you are the type that looks for deals, Intergem offers a downloadable $2 off coupon once you select the date/city on their site. Just bring the coupon with you and present it at the door when you pay.

So, if you aren’t anywhere near New York to partake in this week’s Fashion Show, check to see when the next jewelry show will be in your neck of the woods to see the latest and greatest in jewelry pieces that are available.
